Cuba has educated nearly 40,000 African professionals
Published on September 18, 2012 Email To Friend    Print Version

HAVANA, Cuba (ACN) -- Nearly 40,000 African professionals have graduated from different higher education specialties in Cuba, as the island maintains cooperation with over 50 African nations.

In statements to PL news agency, the president of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP) Kenia Serrano stressed the significance of the 4th Regional African Encounter of Solidarity with Cuba, to take place September 21-23, in Ethiopia.

More than 8,000 Ethiopian professionals received training in Cuba and they are currently working in their country’s sectors of health, agriculture, sports and other important areas.

The Ethiopian forum is expected to be attended by directors of 28 organizations from different African nations, along with graduates from Cuban universities.

Serrano said that over 1,100 solidarity-with-Cuba organizations are currently active in the world, and that Africa plays an important role in field.

The ICAP president said that Fidel Castro has been the main promoter of friendship and solidarity relations with Africa, as well as President Raul Castro and the legendary Cuban-Argentinean guerrilla Ernesto Che Guevara.

Serrano underscored the support by African countries of the struggle being waged by Cuba against the US economic, commercial and financial blockade.

Cuba is currently cooperating with 51 of all 54 African countries, particularly in projects underway in the health sector.

The island is also working in the setting up of cooperation accords with regional and sub-regional African organizations, a complement to bilateral cooperation.
