Construction of solar farm in St Kitts to begin shortly
Published on March 22, 2013 Email To Friend    Print Version

BASSETERRE, St Kitts (SKNIS) -- Taiwan has donated US$1 million for the construction of a 1 megawatt solar farm at the Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw International Airport in St Kitts.

During a brief handover ceremony on Wednesday, Taiwan’s resident ambassador, Miguel Li-Jey Tsao, said that he was more than honoured with this joint effort between the government of Taiwan and St Kitts and Nevis, to promote the development of renewable energy, explaining that renewable energy has become a global trend and implementing it will reconstruct our economy in a sustainable way.

“Today is the beginning of a new phase for both countries cooperation in renewable energy,” he said. “Taiwan would like to share this cutting-edge industry with St Kitts and Nevis, the most important partner and diplomatic allied country of Taiwan.”

Deputy prime minister and minister responsible for energy, Dr Earl Asim Martin, commended the ambassador for working tirelessly to support the development of renewable energy, stating that this would significantly assist the people of the federation.

Martin remarked, “We see the green economy, not only as the area of renewable energy, but as a means of providing new opportunities for the people of St Kitts and Nevis.”

Tsao outlined several projections from the solar farm, stating that they are on their way to perfecting this green energy with tourism by remodelling the airport into a self-reliant green airport, which surely will lead St Kitts and Nevis into greener islands.
