Our education system needs a huge overhaul!

My purpose here is not a fault finding mission, but a passionate journey that supports good governance and constructively criticizes bad decisions regardless of party or individual!

More so, over the years, I taught ‘problem solving’ and one of the lessons prescribed is that in a system one must always support those parts that are effective and functional; hence, time must be allotted to identify problems within the system itself and find solutions – solutions that are sometimes short term and sometimes long term. Similar to our political system today, if we continue to highlight and focus on synergies that are functioning rather than diverting our chief energies to individual elements that are not effective; inevitably, we are creating a dysfunctional system.

Since my article concerning the low Common Entrance grades and what needed to be done to improve our education system at the primary level, insurgents have risen and the aggression toward me escalated. If I may remind our readers, in an effort to secure an effective and functional education system, I had recommended to our government that there are a number of key actors who have to be involved; this includes our government, teachers, taxpayers, parents, education authorities and most importantly the students, who have to choose their own career paths with support from the other stakeholders.

With a drop of blood in the water, I was instantly cornered by a number of conceited great white sharks who did not even focus on the issues at hand, but recklessly sought the most damaging and disdainful scenarios to destroy my character as stipulated in their political missions and job descriptions; however, a few ‘sound minded’ Vincentians came to my rescue.

Hitherto, to discredit my recommendations they put forward an ambivalent accusatory article praising the Girls High School (GHS) CXC passes; a non-issue and a phenomenon that we have embraced for decades now and contents that created a mismatch between what they PM thinks and what they know. They failed at this one and went to submit another letter concerning our education system, this time about the community college; a fabricated story that caught the attention of some Vincentian intellectuals who debunked their insensitive and defensive story. In so doing, the goal of their letter defeated its own purpose and credibility. The surrogates are so translucent that everyone can see right through them.

However, I was relieved to see that the prime minister himself has endorsed my recommendations in a recent statement given to the Searchlight newspaper in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG). In the Searchlight issue -- Friday 24th August 2012 -- a staff reporter published the statement under an article entitled, “Government to host conversation on Maths and English next term” In the third paragraph of the article it states this, “That conversation, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves told Searchlight, should involve the ministry, teachers, the teachers’ union, parents, students and other stakeholders. He said while the conversation will focus on how students did here in SVG, comparative experiences in the region will also be examined.” This is a good direction to take and so, I am very optimistic!

Vincentians, what do you say to the political insurgents who have insulted and discredited my recommendations?

Anyway, one thing I would like to see added to this conversation is that the government reinstates Elvis Daniel, one of the best mathematics teachers, and Kenroy Johnson, who also is undoubtedly one of the best English teachers the nation has trained. I often ask myself, if these resources exist how can there be a shortage of mathematics and English teachers when there are two well-qualified hardworking teachers who are not being utilized because of political differences? Coupled with this, the PM cannot sincerely say that he is concerned about the low mathematics and English scores when the state has two well-qualified individuals remotely placed in “the man’s” apathetical beguile.

Similarly, it is recommended that the ministry distribute evenly the human resources relative to mathematics and English teachers, so that every school has a balanced organizational structure. Furthermore, before offering and distributing scholarships, our education system should be scoured for gaps, that is, identify the subjects in which we are lacking and offer scholarship to fill those vacuums – simple!

Intuitively, my arguments are not hallowed and politically motivated, but well defined, factual, articulated and have merits. Amazingly, I have the ability to view our nation’s challenges from a different perspective and able to identify gaps and find solutions. In so doing, I work with and create fresh ideas to bring success.

If our country is going to move forward, we must also see the bad in our party and systems and work with the others to correct situations and derive solutions.

Together we can; however, the way we doing it now, we won’t!

Does Spring even remotely think that the Prime Minister listened to him and his suggestions?

Is Markie Spring going to tell us that he now is convinced that we in St Vincent have experienced an educational revolution after all?

Spring has denied the existence of the Education Revolution despite the fact that the WORLD BANK has invited Dr Gonsalves to address them on this achievement of ours.

However D. In addition, in the interest of truth and also full clarity, perhaps D. Markie Spring could tell us here whom he has characterised as “conceited great white sharks” who has “stipulated in their political missions and job descriptions” instructions “to destroy (his D. Markie Spring’s) character”?

Thirdly:

Of that quote from D. Markie Spring post above one here ask D. Markie Spring, who is he here writing about when he here said “some Vincentian intellectuals who debunked their insensitive and defensive story”? Is he writing of Richard Huggins and Peter? Please tell us who?

Indeed, that article Markie wrote about in this forum was titled “Letter: Education in St Vincent - The Community College” it and the response to it was published on the August 25, 2012 and are there to see and read! Therefore, one says judge D. Markie Spring truthfulness for yourselfs!

It is therefore submitted that that D. Markie Spring truly need help for he has difficulty telling the truth! One’s advice to him is that he ought to get some!

Vincentians please read this for yourselves and assess the whole situation. After you have read the article read the responses and you’ll see. Even under this new article they continued to defame my character. Vincentians they won’t stop for all of them are alike. Imagine, they go about suing people for defamation of character – Vincentians read their responses and tell if they deserved to be sued. You never seen them discussing the issues – never. They are always on ‘the run’ and protecting their god while they demonize us.

When I wrote the article they were all over me – their aggression rose. Two weeks later the same thing they almost cut my throat for is the same thing the PM is saying – only 2 weeks later. Now how can they defend that – they can’t only call names.

But let’s give Crick and Horace a long rope. These were the same two men who tried to sabotage the just concluded Peaceful Caribbean. Horace, the man with the imaginary Real Estate firm – I am a lie huh? Don’t worry about Crick either for now Wade will take care of him.

PM Gonsalves all I want us to do is to work together for the better of the country. I don’t care about the person of the PM I care about our unstable political and economic environments.

Vincentians, they won’t discuss the issues, but continually defamed my character; isn’t this what our leader is doing to our people; yet no one has sued him and has now being labeled as the PM who has brought the most charges against his people in the history of the Caribbean – What a government. Yes! Distract Vincentians from the issues, but they can’t distract Vincentians from the status quo.

One thing I could tell you the status quo never lied. They can talk all they want and kicking me down to the ground with their unkind words won’t assist our daunting economic and political arenas. The status quo indicates that Vincentians are suffering (I know it’s a lie); Vincentians are plagued by endless crimes (this is indeed a lie): Vincentians are divided and the political arena has become unbearable (lie to.. right?); Vincentians are plagued with higher tax, even when they are unemployed (a lie they say); Vincentians are losing their jobs and victimized when they found out that Vincentians support the other party (this to is a lie?); Vincentians are sued for the least miscommunication while they continually use defamatory words and racial slants against other the people (Here comes another lie); Vincentians are presented with ‘back-breaking’ infrastructure including a ‘killer’ health care system (a big lie); Vincentians are being fed with an education system that mirrors failure, yet, presented it as an ‘education revolution’ (an educated lie).

This and more is the status quo, it don’t lie.

They said that the PM does not need to listen to me as I was still a baby when they PM obtained his PhD. As a matter of fact, they purported that I do not have the intellect to do such. Vincentians, have you heard more feces? A government that does not listen to its people (even the ordinary man) is a failing government. As they said earlier, the man does not listen – the problems we are facing!

Vincentians, the fact that the PM has endorsed my recommendation is killing them inside. They have no way to defend this one – they have no defense for anything, but lowered themselves (as usual) to name calling; despite this, D. Markie Spring will stay strong and focused.

My people do not be distracted, tell them to discuss why the PM is now saying – two weeks after I made those recommendation – that SVG needs to involve parents, students, the ministry, teachers and other stakeholder. Talk that!

I am use to the name calling so this won’t break me. By now Vincentians have realized that this is the way they fight their battle – however, any educated Vincentian would rather discuss the issues that are plaguing our nation. I am, going to stand up for Vincentians as long as I have strength and access to computer and Internet.

Vincentians, I could get into the “lying” “thieving” nasty damaging rhetoric with ‘em’ but I refused. I realized that talking garbage won’t fix our unstable economy or our hideous political environment, but debating the issues we can find common grounds and compromise, which bring solutions.

I could highlight the untruth that “Simon Horace Anderson” has dedicated his life to, such as his invisible book, the inflated GDP he created for the country, his convoluted background and education status, his imaginary Real Estate in Orlando, his falsely stated common entrance result, his re-birth in Georgetown, his conceited claims about his position as the once managers of SVBGA and ‘a bank’ etc, but we have more important issues to debate and those are not on the list. I refused to talk about his ‘untruths’ and succumbed to name callings.

In the same token, Wade seemed to be taking care of “Crick” “Patterson” from Kingstown Park. So let’s look on.

Vincentians, I do not have time for these people who hide behind whatever can shadow them. Isn’t this the kind of the behavior that is preventing our country from moving forward? Opportunists I called them. For me, I do not want favors from the government. I worked hard for what I have accomplished and the only reason I am here to ask our government to please operate in a way that would benefit the entire nation and not just the chosen few! To invest in new ideas that work and a system that leaves no one in a remote corner.

So go ahead bring me down…… but I won’t be moved! I wish that ‘you guys’ find some other nasty names for me, because the ones you have now has become monotonously ‘outplayed’ and fading in visibility. They stray from the real issue, “That the PM embraces my recommendations” to foolish questions like who ‘cornered me, who are the conceited sharks etc,” If these people are dumb to their own works who are they bright enough to identify the challenges of our nation. Vincentians you have a chance to say this in 2015.

By the way “Simon Anderson” and “Patterson” from Kingstown Park ‘you guys’ seemed younger and full of energy with the D. Markie Spring’s syndrome’ you’ have developed – good medicine for you, keep it going!

In ‘your’ eyes you are doing an awesome job, but in the eyes of most Vincentians you are just as lousy!

Stop the divide and name calling and search the issues. Oh! Don’t lose sleep over the PM’s decision to embrace my recommendation – it is written; don’t fight me, take your discourse to the PM. 4/ Where did the US$1 million in cash come from that was carried to the NCB in an old bag.

5/ Where did the US$s cash come from that leading ULP and family members shared out and some deposited.

6/ Where did the wealth come from that a member of parliament now has in the way of several houses, several cars, several women, several children. The from rags to riches in 11 years.

7/ Why did Gonsalves give a Diplomatic Passport to a man called Morgan, who was not a diplomat, never worked for the government or any government owned organization, the man was caught at London airport using that very same diplomatic passport whilst carrying a kilo of cocaine.

8/ GONSALVES has said on several occasions that he is here to finish the work of MAURICE BISHOP, well according to public records in Grenada and Maryland USA, Bishop gave instructions that people should be sent to Cuba and Russia to learn how to keep two sets of books, to cook the books to enable him to commit fraud against the IMF and WORLD BANK. Has Gonsalves specifically excluded this part of Bishops work?

9/ Who in the ULP government had a house built by the Buccament Bay people not far from Harmony Hall.

10/ Why did GONSALVES sign a contract with the Teachers Union, fully well knowing it was unconstitutional and therefore unenforceable. Then told the teachers it was the best contract the ever had, why?

11/ Why did GONSALVES approve the employment of three policemen who had been convicted of serious crimes, convictions upheld at appeal. Why?

12/ Why has Saint Vincent got a bank account in Havana Cuba, where countries like Iran put money in? and who monitors and audits that account?

13/ How much each were the TEREX trucks at the Argyle airport, and who is responsible for that deal?

14/ Is it true that VINLEC has been supplying diesel fuel to the airport without payment to date. Has such action caused expensive electricity prices to be excessively expensive to the SVG consumers? are the VINLEC consumers paying for the fuel used at the airport?

15/ What was the procedure and reason that David Ames of Harlequin got SVG citizenship, and how did he qualify?

16/ Can anyone explain how the 30% pay awards promised by GONSALVES prior to the 2001 election, is now with inflation a minus 30% pay award?

17/ Why did the police shoot a harmless homeless man in the legs? was he carrying a gun? did he have a cutlass? did he throw sticks or stones? did he say something nasty? After having to high powered top brass meeting, they have now decided to charge the victim. Is that because they may have to reinstate even more criminal policemen if they are convicted of some artificially lower crime than attempted murder? [the best form of defense is attack, what say you GONSALVES]

ANDERSON, go and worship your Obeah, with GONSALVES, the man that told us he worships Obeah, he told us that in parliament, its in the Hansard recordings, I was there and heard him say it, I was in the public gallery. Yet I have never heard Gonsalves apologize and retract that statement. The statement was either blasphemous, because he said he does’ Obeah for the Lord, or he was referring to the Lord of Darkness, Satan, whichever, he said it.

Some of us are not as bright as we would want people to believe.

Vincentians, give me a moment to wrap “Simon Horace Anderson” and “Crick” “Patterson” from Kingstown Park around my fingers once more.

Do you listen to Elson Crick’s said radio show that he would rid of me from Caribbean News Now? Now why would he do something like that? Only he wants to be heard? Why someone would want to rid me…… I do not think this man knows me so what’s the problem? He talks I put him in check; is this reason? Is this the reason he invented "Patterson" from Kingstown Park to fix my business on Caribbean News Now? Vincetinas read between the lines.

Anyway!!!!

Boys, our education system cannot be fixed by calling me an idiot; it cannot be fixed by calling me a thief; neither can it be fixed when you refer to me as being on ‘crack’; it cannot be fixed when you conveniently place me in a state of paranoia; it is not wise to call me a dumb either; what about Basin Hole Premier? This is the way Wade Kojo Williams addressed me.

Vincentians, do these names address our challenges in SVG? No! They don’t and can’t. These people do not have the prescriptions to our forsaken political, social and economic environments.

Now, Vincentians I have well defined solutions for our nation’s real problems: This is the big difference between me and them. Listen!

To rejuvenate our education system we need to do a number of things: We need to involve the teachers, tax payers, education authorities (gov’t and the ministry) parents and the student (this was embraced by our PM). In this sense, the students must choose their own career paths; supported and guided by the other stakeholders.

Furthermore, we need to create a distinctive communication link between stakeholders; a communication link that would explain and bridge the entire system together. Also, we need to distribute our teachers in a way that mirrors a balanced organizational chart. More so, let’s identify those gaps that need to be filled and provide scholarship to fill those vacuums.

Vincentians, I remember that when I did not go to school for a day my teachers would show up at my door. These teachers have played a significant role in my current success. I am not saying that teachers must continue to do that (however, it works) what I would like to see is that teacher, with all the technology available to us, create a system that brings similar results. How about keeping in contact with the parents through email, letters, etc about students’ progress?

Moreover, the authorities need to monitor the system and provide feedback – with this in place we can identify short comings and find quick long term and short term solutions.

In addition, our education authorities need to invest in new and innovative programs and ideas.

Vincentians, I have real solutions – solutions that can benefit our education system! They have ill names!

Yes i am one of the persons referred to in markie Springs article.I am the holder of a B Sc Math degree (1st class honours) and an M Phil degree in Math/Statistics and 32 years of teaching experience.I am out of a job for nearly 21 months as a Math teacher since i resigned in December 2010 to contest the general elections.I am being punished because I dared to seek higher office by contesting against the ULP.Our PM has said that he will not lift a finger to facilitate my re-instatement.In the mean while, our students are struggling

IF ANYONE BELIEVES THAT ELVIS DANIEL WROTE THAT LETTER ABOVE, THEN I HAVE A BRIDGE TO SELL THEM.

If Elvis Daniel did in fact write that letter, then he should not be re-hired....period.

Just look at the punctuation! And he says that he has 2 Masters Degrees?!?

1) The writer wrote I as "i".

2) He wrote the proper noun, name, Markie with a common m.

3) The entire letter is one paragraph. Not that it has to be more than one paragraph, but could you imagine a qualified teacher writing like this? What could he teach the students?

4) At the end of each sentence, he did not even leave a space after the full stop!

Anyone could make a mistake or two, but for A TEACHER to make so many ELEMENTARY mistakes in 8 simple lines is unacceptable.

Elvis Daniel did not write that letter!

Elvis Daniel by way of observation you wrote that it is you who had resigned. Quote: “since i resigned in December 2010…” and your reason, Quote: “..to seek higher office…”

Forgive me for stating the most obvious Mr. Daniel, but no one sacked or dismissed you, it is you who quit your post so therefore how does that act on your part translates into others punishing you?

Markie, you and Peter are quite fortunate, you know. In First Form, a particular renegade of a teacher came before my class, when my Literature teacher was absent for that day, and put up on the BLACKBOARD in bold heading: "SEVEN PROOFS GOD DOES NOT EXIST".

This intellectually dishonest creature proceeded to give us a ONE-SIDED ARGUEMENT to supposedly "prove", point by demonic point 'WHY GOD DOES NOT EXIST'.

We later on discovered a staff member's personal copy of a periodical which had a similarly titled article, only THIS TIME, "SEVEN PROOFS GOD EXISTS." This article had, objectively, BOTH SIDES OF THE ARGUMENT. Our former BIGOTTED 'teacher' HAD BEEN BLATANTLY DISHONEST WITH THE TRUTH.

He had apparently conveniently extracted the ATHEISTS' SIDE OF THE ARGUMENT to us, WITH ABSOLUTELY NO EXPOSURE TO THE OPPOSITE SIDE, THE BELIEVERS' SIDE OF THE ARGUMENT.

The article's author had VALIDATED THE ACTUAL PROOFS OF GOD'S EXISTENCE.

The author of the original article had quite ACCURATELY AND AUTHORITATIVELY DISPROVED AND DEBUNKED THE ATHEISTS' ARGUMENTS, all of them.

This nasty creature aforementioned had been ABSOLUTELY, TOTALLY, AND COMPLETELY DISHONEST WITH US, AND WITH THE TRUTH.

I know the comment writer Elvis Daniel, as a colleague and member of my Greater Georgetown Community. Without looking over his shoulder, I can render an assessment that the style and tenor of that letter is from the named writer. I have seen a couple recent letters from him in THE VINCENTIAN newspaper. To imperiously doubt that the writer is NOT who he says he is would be totally erroneous.

I have taught English Language and Literature to high school and adult learners, including teachers. I have tutored University Students in USE OF ENGLISH.

I have done standard and electronic typing, computer typing, keyboarding, and word processsing.

I am a male, typing in a proscribed, restricted, typing window. I try to type at speed, without seeing the whole "Page" here, while I strive to focus on the message. I favour typing directly onto the machine, rather than scripting first, then transcribing. I am trained in use of myriad business machines.

I fully understand why a person blogging here would make a number of errors - - - typographical, spelling, grammatical, etc. There would be numerous errors of cohesion, antecedents, etc.

Only a charlatan political hack would make senseless fodder of these occurences.

I make more than my share of myriad errors.

My students, trainees, and friends, I am sure would be appalled at these plentiful errors that I frequently make.

Yet, they fully well know that I am a perfectionist where GRAMMAR, COMPOSITION, AND SPELLING are concerned.

I am the guy who strategized, produced, and convincingly defeated the best English teachers (most of them GRADUATES)at the top four high schools in Kingstown.

Why would I then make as many or more errors than many other commentators on this site ? There are solidly objective reasons. BUT, certain present company are subjective clowns and incorrigible POLITICAL BIGOTS. Supremely purblind.

Then again, those who idiotically CONDEMN bloggers here for their flawed 'spelling', which oftentimes are more typos than really spelling, are TOTALLY IGNORANT OF THE HISTORY OF SPELLING, even as late as the 17th and 18th centuries.

I have laughed at the utter ignorance of Simpleto simon, as he repeatedly, brazenly, derided others on their spelling, particularly. What you don't know, you just don't know. From my foreign language forays (Ralphie boy, if he was really in touch, would recall that I was THE BOY WONDER IN SPANISH whom the Senior Formers would seek out while still in my very First Form), I have found the English language to be quite 'delinquent' - - - with its many "exceptions".

So, I strive to write a fully personal style that often dispenses with several generally accepted conventions. Yes, I am frequently a deliberate literary "law breaker". That's how my panel won Grammar, GHS, Convent, and SMSS.

Then, again, I constantly invoke West Indian/Vincentian terms - - - running rough-shod over strictures on colloquialisms.

Then, I use journalese and violate many 'normal' so-called standard grammatical rules.

When you prejudicially lambasted my writings, recently, I was humoured. A top Canadain journalist and professor of journalism visited SVG not too long ago and adjudged my journalism submissions as exceptional and specially suited to this editorial style of writing.

I have won praise from since Fifth Form, inclusive, for my unique writings, including most professors from several colleges or univesities, in Europe, North America, and the Caribbean.

And, I adjudge the above POST-GRADUATE writer, Mr. ELVIS DANIEL, as a capable, stellar, and accomplished writer.
