Commentary: While Gonsalves is promoting reparations, the US, France and Britain want to strike Syria
Published on September 12, 2013 Email To Friend    Print Version

By Hudson George

Some people take a long time to understand the real world we are living in and others understand it very quickly. Those among us who have political motives and have a good understanding of the real world will always use their knowledge to make great success during their lifetime by misguiding others who admire them for various reasons that sometimes cannot be explained.

hudson_george.jpg
Hudson George has a BA in Social Science from York University, Toronto, Canada. He has been writing since his early teenage years and now contributes letters and articles to a number of Caribbean newspapers
St Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves’ activist role to get reparations for the enslavement of African people by European colonisers is just a big political stunt to make him more popular in the political limelight and to give false hope for black folks who think our former colonisers will pay us some kind of monies as compensation. Comrade Ralph cannot even influence the British to buy Windward Island bananas and sell the product on the European market, more or less, how can he influence them to pay us any reparations for slavery?

Intellectuals like Ralph Gonsalves know that, for various reasons, most black people do not read a lot educational books, except the holy Bible, after leaving school, so he thinks that he has a God given right to speak on our behalf. He thinks that we do not have qualified men and women within our various communities capable of analysing global issues. He seems to be underestimating black people’s ability to fight for our right.

However, there are black folks who have an understanding of global politics and they know full well that our former colonisers do not have any intention of paying us any money for the inhumane treatment our ancestors endured for centuries during slavery on the tobacco, cotton and sugar plantation in the Americas. For example, instead of France compensating Haiti for the enslavement of Africans they brought to Haiti as slaves, France demanded money from Haiti’s revolutionary government for taking their freedom by force of arms.

Presently, Britain, France and the United States are busy trying to expand their political interests in the Middle East with their superior military armies, as the civil war in Syria escalates. They do not have any time to pay attention to Comrade Ralph and his anti-imperialists and anti-colonial struggle. In addition, Comrade Ralph cannot explain to us what strategic plans he has to influence the former colonisers to compensate us.

Marcus Garvey had his Black Star Liner to take us back to Africa and that did not happen. We are still living in the Diaspora and we will be here for thousands of years to come.

With this present global crisis that is affecting both rich and poor countries, there is high unemployment in Europe and North America and black folks are the most affected wherever the unemployment rate is very high. For example, in Detroit, which is a populated black American city, more than half of the population migrated to other cities in the United States looking to find meaningful employment.

In addition, former colonial powers such as Spain and Portugal are being plagued with high unemployment. And due to the difficulties that citizens of those two countries are faced with, thousands of Portuguese are migrating to former colonies such as Brazil, Angola and Mozambique, in the hope of finding employment opportunities. The Spaniards are migrating in their thousands to other European countries and South America. Therefore, it will be interesting to see where Spain and Portugal will get money to compensate us for slavery, if Ralph Gonsalves and his reparations movement champion the cause successfully.

Spain lost its colonial influence in the Americas when liberation movements in the various colonies challenged its domain in Latin America and the Caribbean. As the Spanish influence diminished, the United States began to spread its influence and take control of those former Spanish colonies with military invasions of Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Cuba. Presently, Puerto Rico still remains a colony of the United States. On the mainland of Central and South America, for many years the US administration infiltrated and organised military coups and supported friendly dictators for economic and political reasons.

The United States continues to have great political and military influence in the region and Britain, France and Holland continue hold on to some of their colonies. However, the effects of slavery and colonisation have become a part of our social living conditions in this part of the world and it is impossible for us to change them.

As black people in the Diaspora, we do not have the influence and resources to force our former colonisers to compensate us for the wrong things they did to our ancestors. As a matter of fact, our mentality and the way we govern our countries is more colonial than France, Britain and Holland presently. We have not made any changes in the English-speaking Caribbean countries. For example, the old British colonial rules are still implied within the laws and constitution, while the British have made changes to their laws and constitution.

In addition, the black population in Africa and the Diaspora is about one billion people, but not even one BLACK COUNTRY has a top vote in the United Nations Security Council to seek the interests of black people. However, France, Britain, United States, Russia, China have veto wielding powers rights in the UN Security Council.

Traditionally, Russia always opposes the United States, France and Britain, so it is expected that the reparations movement will get Russia's support. China’s role in global politics is all about trade and the Chinese will only support the movement, if it is the interest of continental African countries. It is no hidden secret that China wants good relationship with Africa because Africa is the richest continent in terms of natural resources and China wants to get piece of the African pie.

In conclusion, I personally believe that, even though the old method of slavery in the Caribbean has been abolished, the old colonial system is not defeated and will not be defeated in our time. Capitalism is still alive and kicking. The capitalists create global capitalism. There is no need for the rich industrialised counties to import slaves from Africa and indentured labourers from India and China anymore. With global capitalism as the new system for creating quick wealth for the very rich business people, all they have to do to make more and more profit is to set up their giant manufacturing companies in India, China and Singapore, where labour is cheap and nobody cares about workers’ rights.

But as Comrade Ralph pushes his reparations movement for black people in the Diaspora, the countries that are supposed to pay us reparations are getting ready to fight a new war in Syria.

Peter:

HUDSON GEORGE, a well written commentary with useful information. Thank you Hudson for your input.

Peter Binose

Patterson:

Here we go again, yet another bash “the comrade” article from another one of his ever growing band of short-sighted detractors for his “the comrade” bringing to the fore a worthy and unsettled matter!

Stop for a moment my dear Hudson George and consider this that every journey begins with the first step! “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step” Chinese Philosopher Lao Tzu.

Where is the gratitude Hudson George to “the comrade” for putting on the front burner a subject matter that many of the offending nations would gladly prefer to see remain buried in the pages of history?

Martin Luther King, Jr once said “Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step”. What Mr. King was expressing there Hudson George was this point, that in the process of doing, your “Faith” in success is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase.

The renowned British Author C.S. Lewis writing on another issue also once wrote “What saves a man is to take a step. Then another step”.

Therefore Hudson George one would thus correctly ask you what “steps” has you or the other detractors have taken to keep the painful voices of those who have suffered the injustice of Slavery and its aftermath alive!

The very parched ground where the hurt and broken bodies of the enslaved lies cries out “violence and injustice”! When will we see justice, when will they make amends! Who will champion our cause? Injury, grievance, injustice, injustice, continuance, injustice!

It is therefore most unkind of you Hudson to write “Intellectuals like Ralph Gonsalves know that, for various reasons, most black people do not read a lot educational books, except the holy Bible, after leaving school, so he thinks that he has a God given right to speak on our behalf. He thinks that we do not have qualified men and women within our various communities capable of analysing global issues. He seems to be underestimating black people’s ability to fight for our right.”

Hence if you and the other detractors think yourselves qualified to shout and fight for “lost rights” where therefore are your voices? Where are the footprints of your steps in the light of Lao Tzu and Dr Martin Luther King, Jr’s writings?

Must he “the comrade” not “go tell it on the mountains” of how they have done. Must he not ask on the hill tops and in the arenas of righteous moral rectitude for them to make amends? Where is the “meaningful foot step” Hudson George of you and The Hon Dr Ralph Gonsalves’s other detractors! Meaningful foot step that the world could agonize, worry and would be concerned about!

Profound gratitude to the man, The Hon Dr Ralph Gonsalves for bringing to the fore a worthy and unsettled matter that is a burning issue to those who recognise that the wrongs of the past needs a definite and lasting closure, and for bringing to the fore a subject which is a worthy and unsettled moral matter needing to be perused!

Vincentian:

In the same breath Gonsalves is selling his weapon of mass distraction, namely reparations, he is selling off all the tourism resources to white foreign investors. This was the case in Buccament, Bequia, Canouan and Mayreau, and now he is looking to sell off Mount Wynn - the only remaining 'good' beach on mainland St. Vincent for locals and visitors to enjoy. The only beneficiaries to these types of developments are the foreign investors, greedy politicians and their acolytes. Meanwhile, the locals are left to beg crumbs from the devil's table. Slavery all over again. Dread!

Rastaman used to call them bald head.

Hudson George:

Patterson, you seem to be disrespectful based on your comments attacking me personally. Reparations for black people is part of my history and I have a valid right to give my opinion on the issue. However, I know that it is just a political game you comrade Ralph Gonsalves is playing with the issue to promote his political agenda. Ralph is not a fool,. He is a smart person. And if folks like you believe Ralph is the brightest mind in St. Vincent & the Grenadines, that does not make him the smartest person where ever black people are living.

I beg you to stop being a follower blindly. You seem to be defending Ralph political interest rather than paying attention to the contents of the article. Maybe you should sit back and ask yourself, what kind of influence Ralph and his Reparations Movement have, that can force those imperialist countries to pay black people in the Diaspora compensation for slavery.

Comrade Ralph was sworn in as Prime Minister of St. Vincent & the Grenadians by the Governor General who is a representative of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the 2nd, of Britain. Therefore, he is a collaborator of imperialism himself. He has diplomatic relationship with Taiwan, a county that is basically supposed to be a Chinese province. Can't you see that comrade Ralph is a politician?

I am defending my opinion that Comrade Ralph is playing politics with the Reparations issue. He is an intellectual and he knows that vast majority of black people are vulnerable. He knows that most black people main interest is where their next meal coming from.

In addition, Ralph Gonsalves is not Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The reparations issue is not about black people fighting against segregation and apartheid. Dr. King was not a politician. He never jail any body who opposes him. Ralph Gonsalves is a politicians who plays his politics for his political benefits. Presently, he is politicking as though he has black people interest at heart. And all I am saying is that he cannot tell us how he can influence our former colonisers to pay us reparations.

Presently, Britain, France and the United States role in global politics have not changed. They still have the powers to make wars and exploit third world countries. So if you have faith in Ralph Gonsalves to seek reparations for us black people, I personally, do not have any faith in him. I know he is a politician trying to say the things that can make him popular in the political arena.

If you think comrade Ralph is doing you a favour by tricking yo fulfill his agenda, you can show him gratitude. As for me, I already know his political games and I am not playing on his team.

STEVE_HUGGINS:

IRONIES of ironies, says Solomon, the reputed ancestor of some Black West Indian peoples by virtue of MENELUK via the acting Queen of Abyssinia-Ethiopia.

A RED Portuguese has the shameless GALL to go before a predominantly Black Vincentian audience following a stilted talk on compensation and/or apology for NEW WORLD SLAVERY of BLACK AFRO-WEST INDIAN PEOPLES and arrogantly CALL UPON THOSE BLACK PERSONS in the audience TO "ISOLATE" AND OTHERWISE SANCTION a cadre or segment of the BLACK VINCENTIAN POPULATION who had contrary view to his latest COMMUNISTIC CONTRIVANCE AND GAMBIT for his corrupt political survival and the unrepenting PROMOTION OF THE NEW SLAVERY OF COMMUNISM, soviet-RUSSIAN style.

YES, right IN FRONT OF BLACK PEOPLE.

THIS guy is really FRONTED.

And, he unashamedly 'INSTRUCTED" US, black Vincentians/West Indians, to GIVE A COMMUNISTIC PASS TO HIS FELLOW IBERIAN communist ideologue and despot in Cuba.

This politico-ideological charlatan OPPORTUNISTICALLY, with no lack of INTELLECTUAL DISHONESTY, propagandize that WE SHOULD NOT ASK FOR SLAVERY REPARATIONS and SLAVE TRADING REPARATIONS from his own PORTUGUESE AND SPANISH kinsfolk and ancestral cousins, IF NOT HIS DIRECT Goncalvez forbears.

I usually don't like to accuse a fellow human being of HYPOCRISY.

THIS, to my considered BLACK MIND, is THE VERY HEIGHTS OF POLITICAL HYPOCRISY.

Hypocrisy of the very highest order.

Monkey say eh world nah level.

BAN RALPH GONSALVEZ from any reparations discussions, unless it be to quantify the amount of REPARATIONS and APOLOGIES that his PORTUGUESE NAMESAKES OR ANCESTORS/ANCESTRAL COUSINS will be agreeing to PAY.

The now-monied reactionary Communist ideologue, according to his Barbados-born BRITISH pal whose mouth opened and 'tory jumped out that RALPHIE the Commie PASSED OVER ALL WE BLACK VINCENTIANS AND VINCIE RASTAFARIAN BRETHREN to chose the self-same leftist AFRO-SAXON to represent we Black SVG people at DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA, without so much as a word to we, we tax-paying slaves and minions.

Then, according to the British-mimicking AFRO-SAXON, he "reported" to SVG cabinet, and his subsequent "paper" was also later presented to Caricom reps. NOT TO MENTION that he getting a 'book deal' also, out of the whole sad affair.

THEN, we had let out to us that the Copycat Communist was his MENTION, COUNSELOR, ADVISER, COLLEAGUE . . . AND FRIEND who had 'guided' him in his supposedly historic studies.

THIS is the same beckles who FALSELY CLAIMED SOME YEARS AGO that OUR SVG BLACK CARIBS were really 'Black BARBADIANS.'

So, Vin, WHO THEN BROUGHT THE "reparations" issue BEFORE THE CARICOM REPS?????

'Gunny NOT "involved"? You don't know that wilely communist. Ask Tom Adams political colleagues WHY he declared the COPYCAT to be "PERSONA NON GRATIA" and revoked and/or refused to renew his WORK PERMIT so that he could be able to continue to work in Barbados at the UWI.

A red PORTUGUESE who very likely had either direct ancestors or ancestral cousins PIONEERING AND BENEFITTING from the inhuman ENSLAVEMENT OF BLACK AFRICAN PEOPLES, our Black West Indian ancestors and ancestral cousins, in the AMERICAS.

A red PORTUGUESE family empire which ENGAGED IN THE GENOCIDAL TRADING IN BLACK AFRICAN PEOPLES WHO THEY HAD MERCENERILY ENSLAVED.

Irony of ironies, says Solomon.

What a political and ideological FRAUD.

NOW that primarily Black WEST INDIANS are becoming utterly disgusted and turned-off with these CORRUPT POLITRICKANS, they have endeavoured to come with another COMMUNIST TACTIC to distract us AND give us supposed external "enemies."

So, try to soak the British and French, BUT dishonestly EXCUSE his fellow PORTUGUESE and SPANISH, and their most vicious CRUEL treatment of BLACK PEOPLE AND INDIGENOUS PEOPLES throughout the Caribbean and Latino America.

And, somebody tell me that these guys are "educated"?

Patterson:

Firstly Hudson George you write that you know! How so my man! How and what do you know? One thinks that you are over reaching your indeed poor human ability! You know! To know is indeed to have particular knowledge of!

Your opinion is one thing my man but that you “know” is another thing? Indeed and indeed that you “know” says a lot! You for your part “know that it is just a political game you comrade Ralph Gonsalves is playing with the issue to promote his political agenda”. You know? What indeed do you know Hudson George? Tell us Hudson George how came you by such particular and unique a knowledge?

Further, my to “stop being a follower blindly” here again you overreach your knowledge Hudson George! One has indeed paid attention to the “contents of your article” and found it wanting! It is just a collection of preposterous twaddle written by a wannabe!

Your lack of knowledge oozes from ever subject matter and theme of your poorly put together article and your thence subsequent reply to here! A matter for further reply by me!

Peter Binose:

PATTERSON, you are the worst kind of collaborator of this very nasty Marxist regime in SVG.

Why do you need to attack the man and not the article.

HUDSON, what they hate is the truth, that is why they attack you, to try and divert the truth, because the truth damages the ULP and its leadership, they hate the truth.

Please don't let the scum brigade divert your goodness in writing the truth, keep it up.

Patterson:

Hudson George and one of this medium most prolific medicated lunatic “Peter Binose” whom I do not ordinarily have time for on account of his lunacy, accuses one of attacking Mr George, which of course is not the case, since the shortcomings of Hudson George’s post, is that which was being highlighted. His, Hudson George’s post as set out above presumes knowledge on his part which would be most unlikely for him to have, thus his arguments are groundless.

Sadly in order to deal with the man’s most poorly argued case and answer the charge of my attacking him and not his argument, this my reply has to be a most lengthily one. Much, much longer than one would like but the deficiencies of his posted argument however must be noted. So let us just take a look at what this wannabe Hudson George wrote.

Note that Hudson George wrote “Those among us who have political motives and have a good understanding of the real world will always use their knowledge to make great success during their lifetime by misguiding others who admire them for various reasons that sometimes cannot be explained.”

His nefarious companions are his companions and so are we judged by the companions we keep.

If Hudson George “will always uses” his “knowledge” to misguide others why does he assume that other individuals are all engaging in his reprehensible and nefarious behaviour of misguiding others? His and his ilk bad ways are their own bad ways so why does he assume that every other person acts like he and his ilk does.

Hudson George: “St Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves’ activist role to get reparations for the enslavement of African people by European colonisers is just a big political stunt to make him more popular in the political limelight and to give false hope for black folks who think our former colonisers will pay us some kind of monies as compensation.”

One would like to ask how does the man Hudson George “know” that the “activist role” of Dr The Hon Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister “is just a big political stunt”? To know is indeed very particular! To understand as fact! So how has Hudson George came by that fact that he there asserts?

One would like to ask how he Hudson George came by such a unique and particular knowledge! If the statement was Hudson George’s opinion then he should say so! Instead Hudson George there presents us with the statement as a matter of fact acquired. What rot is that! But there again Hudson George assumes that at the base of the actions of others like his and his ilk’s own, avows reprehensible and nefarious intent would be present.

Hudson George: “Comrade Ralph cannot even influence the British to buy Windward Island bananas and sell the product on the European market, more or less…”

Here we see displayed the ignorance of the man Hudson George. For his information, the companies that are British banana buyers are commercial companies that make commercial decisions based on the profit motive! The profit motive is what commercial decisions are made of.

Hudson George: “Comrade Ralph cannot even influence the British to buy Windward Island bananas and sell the product on the European market, more or less, how can he influence them to pay us any reparations for slavery?”

One would ask Hudson George what has the commercial decisions of British commercial companies that trade in Windward Island bananas has to do with the British political establishment! What in his Hudson George’s mind is the link between British banana buyers and “reparations for slavery”!

Most surely reparations for slavery are political demands being made to political establishments. Dr The Hon Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister rightfully presents his case for reparations to the political establishments.

Negotiations in the trade of Windward Island bananas are commercial negotiations with commercial entities. Commercial profits are what drive the parties engaging in the negotiations there. Windward Island banana producers are looking to obtain the highest selling price possible for their product, bananas and the British buyers seeking to strike bargains at the lowest buying price. Now what on earth is the “reparations for slavery” to do with these negotiations one would ask Hudson George!

Hudson George: “Intellectuals like Ralph Gonsalves know that, for various reasons, most black people do not read a lot educational books, except the holy Bible, after leaving school, so he thinks that he has a God given right to speak on our behalf.”

One would ask Hudson George how be it that he, Hudson George, of all men knows what Dr The Hon Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister know. Has the PM declared his knowledge to Hudson George? This Hudson George’s “knowing” is most unique! One further would ask Hudson George how is it that he, Hudson George, of all men knows what Dr The Hon Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister thinks!

Hudson George: “He thinks that we do not have qualified men and women within our various communities capable of analysing global issues.” Again one demands to know of Hudson George how is it that he, Hudson George, of all men knows what Dr The Hon Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister thinks! Has the Prime Minister taken this wannabe Hudson George into his confidence? Has the Prime Minister detailed his thoughts to Hudson George? Need I say, one doubts it!

Hudson George: “He seems to be underestimating black people’s ability to fight for our right.”

There for the first time Hudson George tells us how matters “seems” like to him. Appearance to Hudson George need not be the fact in truth but nevertheless, we do have from Hudson George, what reality seems to him and that we must accept. The reality as “seems” to Hudson George is his own reality no matter how jaded.

Hudson George: “However, there are black folks who have an understanding of global politics and they know full well that our former colonisers do not have any intention of paying us any money for the inhumane treatment our ancestors endured for centuries during slavery on the tobacco, cotton and sugar plantation in the Americas.”

Sadly and once again one would ask Hudson George how the black people whom he promotes here, these “black folks who have an understanding of global politics” came to “know” “that our former colonisers do not have any intention of paying us any money” Indeed the suppose knowledge of Hudson George is truly vast for sure. He would have us believe that he has an ear at every conference table there is and with that Hudson George has made political lobbying redundant, owing to his extensive knowledge.

Hudson George: “Presently, Britain, France and the United States are busy trying to expand their political interests in the Middle East with their superior military armies, as the civil war in Syria escalates. They do not have any time to pay attention to Comrade Ralph and his anti-imperialists and anti-colonial struggle.”

There Hudson George would have us believe that he even knows what and how much time the entire diplomatic establishment of “Britain, France and the United States” have for other sovereign states like SVG.

Thus Hudson George by his superior knowledge of these things tells us that these three states on account of the sabre rattling that is taking place, that neither “Britain, France and the United States” “do not have any time to pay attention to Comrade Ralph and his anti-imperialists and anti-colonial struggle” Indeed, the man Hudson George would have us believe that he by disposition, has perfect and superior knowledge of the politics and the diplomacy of Britain, France and the United States.

Hudson George: “In addition, Comrade Ralph cannot explain to us what strategic plans he has to influence the former colonisers to compensate us.”

Hudson George here tells us that “Comrade Ralph cannot explain to us what strategic plans he has to influence the former colonisers to compensate us.” But how did Hudson George arrive at the “cannot” here in his statement did Hudson George interviewed the Comrade and found him wanting?

Hudson George needs to tell us how he arrived at that fact! This we do know that Dr The Hon Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister, is for his part a Lawyer of many years standing and is well acquainted with making legal arguments and putting together briefs for trial therefore, one would doubt Hudson George’s statement that “Comrade Ralph cannot explain to us what strategic plans he has…” Hudson one has observed so far has little time for facts as we would expect.

Hudson George: “Therefore, it will be interesting to see where Spain and Portugal will get money to compensate us for slavery, if Ralph Gonsalves and his reparations movement champion the cause successfully.” While finding money may be interesting to Hudson George it in no way negates the fact that Spain and Portugal remain big borrowers of funds in the Money Market and the ECB.

Hudson George: “The United States continues to have great political and military influence in the region and Britain, France and Holland continue hold on to some of their colonies. However, the effects of slavery and colonisation have become a part of our social living conditions in this part of the world and it is impossible for us to change them.” Here by his definitive statements this seer Hudson George the oracle, tells us what is impossible. The wisdom of this all knowing prophet is staggering to say the least!

Hudson George: “As black people in the Diaspora, we do not have the influence and resources to force our former colonisers to compensate us for the wrong things they did to our ancestors.””

“Force” Hudson George! Why moot this premiss? Indeed Dr The Hon Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister has never spoke of using force in his political negotiations with his counterparts rather he has spoken of setting in place a chain for negotiations based on moral justice.

Hudson George: “As a matter of fact, our mentality and the way we govern our countries is more colonial than France, Britain and Holland presently.” Hudson George baffles me here!

Hudson George: “We have not made any changes in the English-speaking Caribbean countries. For example, the old British colonial rules are still implied within the laws and constitution, while the British have made changes to their laws and constitution.” One would ask Hudson if it isn’t broken why fix it and what would he like to see change! Indeed all of the Commonwealth countries including the USA have their Laws rooted in the English Common Law.

Hudson George: “In addition, the black population in Africa and the Diaspora is about one billion people, but not even one BLACK COUNTRY has a top vote in the United Nations Security Council to seek the interests of black people. However, France, Britain, United States, Russia, China have veto wielding powers rights in the UN Security Council.”

Here Hudson George’s statement is so ridiculous and preposterous it is laughable. He says “the black population in Africa and the Diaspora is about one billion people” now that should include those in “France, Britain, United States” but he went on to write of France, Britain and the United States in terms of “a top vote in the United Nations Security Council”! What is he there on about?

Just in the event of Hudson George not having noticed perhaps it is time to tell him that the President of the United States is part of his “black population in Africa and the Diaspora”! However to correctly answer Hudson George and his “BLACK COUNTRY” and his “to seek the interests of black people” would involve a too detail a reply so it is best it remain unsaid.

It may help Hudson George to know that the Republic of India is the world’s largest democracy with a Population exceeding 1.2 billion and the official Indian defence budget for 2011 was US$36.03 billion, or 1.83% of GDP. For the fiscal year spanning 2012–2013, US$40.44 billion was budgeted.

According to the World Bank, as of 2011, the Indian economy is nominally worth US$1.848 trillion; it is the tenth-largest economy by market exchange rates, and is, at US$4.457 trillion, the third-largest by purchasing power parity, or PPP. With its average annual GDP growth rate of 5.8% over the past two decades, and reaching 6.1% during 2011–12. Neither India nor Germany has a “vote in the United Nations Security Council”! But what has all this to do with a campaign for reparations one has not the faintest idea!

Hudson George tells us that “Traditionally, Russia always opposes the United States, France and Britain, so it is expected that the reparations movement will get Russia's support. China’s role in global politics is all about trade and the Chinese will only support the movement, if it is the interest of continental African countries. It is no hidden secret that China wants good relationship with Africa because Africa is the richest continent in terms of natural resources and China wants to get piece of the African pie.”

Even if any of what Hudson wrote is true, what too is any of that to do with negotiating through diplomatic channels with former colonial powers and campaigning for unpaid reparations? As far as I am aware I have not read of any of the campaigning party planning to take the matter before the United Nations Security Council, so what on earth is Hudson George telling us?

Hudson George: In conclusion, I personally believe that, even though the old method of slavery in the Caribbean has been abolished, the old colonial system is not defeated and will not be defeated in our time.

And there in conclusion we have Hudson George’s declared belief and opinion and what can one say of the man’s belief, it after all is his belief but when opinion and belief are paraded before us as facts, there we must take a stand and demand to know how a wannabe like Hudson arrived at his facts.

So it is that one there asks Hudson for clear facts.

If Ralph was serious about Reparation he would have started selling the history of our Garifuna people to the youths. They have no resources to link the treatment of slaves to their ancestors. How can he convince the youths to take up the cause, if they have no records of how their ancestors suffered by the hand of the British? This is not an issue Vincentians are going to take up and follow Ralph done a road to nowhere. They have more pressing thing to worry about. I am sure a survey would show the people couldn’t give a crap about what happened several hundred years ago. They are more concerned about what happening to the lives today and in the future.

Although I agree with the thought of reparation I don’t like how it’s being used as a political football. Ralph first step on the issue is his last as far as Vincentians are concerned. He wants to bring the issue up at the UN and that’s why he’s gone about it this way. The big show is finished, so what’s next as far as SVG nationals are concerned? He has no idea where he’s going with this issue - well except to the UN, because he has no plans to educate the people, especially the youths, on the issue. I think he bit off more than he could chew on this one. Just like the cross country road to nowhere.

Stop looking for rights wrongs and freeness in WAR

Return to the scrap heaps and like Cuba re-invent the crooked wheels that enslave us.

Pity Ralph, he is a product of immobile mentality, which evaluates humankind by how less the blackness of the skin. The first time I saw him was at the time of crucifixion of Kerwin Morris and Tim Daisley in the Market square. I predicted the flourish of that one, as he uttered his vomit to unread recipients.
