HAVANA, Cuba – Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez continues to progress from a stable to favourable condition following surgery in Cuba, said the country’s executive vice-president Nicolas Maduro on Friday.
Maduro confirmed that a complication had occurred due to sudden bleeding during the surgical process, which was controlled, according to PL news agency.
Chavez arrived in Havana in the early hours on Monday to continue with his medical treatment for cancer, after recent medical examinations revealed the presence of cancerous cells in the area where a tumor was removed by Cuban doctors in 2011.
Recent oxygen hyperbaric sessions in Cuba and new examinations revealed the presence of new cancerous cells, which required surgery.
The medical team treating Chavez successfully concluded six-hours of surgery on Tuesday.
