Central bank president must go, says Curacao PM
Published on August 31, 2012 Email To Friend    Print Version

WILLEMSTAD, Curacao -- Curacao’s Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte said that the president of the joint Central Bank, Dr Emsley Tromp, must resign because he publicly accused the prime minister and two of his ministers of corruption.

Curacao and St Maarten have been arguing for months about Tromp. St Maarten has called for an investigation of Tromp, but also a larger inquiry into the performance of the entire Central Bank.

However, many in Curacao are saying that the prime minister just wants revenge before the elections of October 19, which could bring a change in the government.

Tromp has accused the prime minister; minister of finance, George Jamaloodin, and the minister of economic development, Nasser Hakim, of corruption.
