Caribbean leaders to speak at African American hotel ownership summit
Published on July 25, 2012 Email To Friend    Print Version

FORT LAUDERDALE, USA -- Caribbean officials and dignitaries are heading to Miami this week to further ties with hotel investors in the North American region at the 16th Annual International African American Hotel Ownership and Investment Summit and Trade Show on July 25-28.

President of French St Martin, Alain Richardson, deputy prime minister of Dutch St Maarten, William Marlin, and prime minister of The Bahamas, Perry Christie, are all confirmed to be in attendance at the four-day conference.

There will be meetings, discussions and sessions on the current hotel industry, updates on the outlook for the market and how specific tourism initiatives will economically impact the region.

“This is a great opportunity to form new partnerships and form great joint ventures,” said Andy Ingraham, president of the National Association of Black Hotel Owners Operators and Developers (NABHOOD), which organizes the summit. “That is particularly so for Caribbean countries who have not looked at this market before.”

Christie and Marlin will provide further insight on the business during the event.

The summit is designed to educate attendees on how to become a hotel owner or investor, share minority investment trends, explore supplier opportunities and decide how to market to minorities and diversity issues affecting the industry.

Scores of Caribbean university students from The Bahamas, Anguilla, St Maarten, Jamaica and Trinidad will be in attendance at the four-day conference, kicking off with a scholarship golf tournament to raise money for minority hospitality students. They are among some 100 students from the Caribbean and North American region who will introduce the keynote speakers at the summit.

Several hotel companies will have Corporate Suites during the summit. The NABHOOD Awards Luncheon is on Thursday to recognize individuals and companies that have demonstrated through their actions a commitment to diversity while providing opportunities to minorities. The Trade Show will be on Friday in addition to a “Focus on the Caribbean”, where investors and interested persons can meet Caribbean government investment and hotel representatives to hear about investment opportunities and incentives.
