Caribbean Week 2014 and One Love Festival launched in Northern Ireland
Published on August 6, 2014 Email To Friend    Print Version

BELFAST, Northern Ireland -- Caribbean Week is steadily becoming a significant and engaging regional tourism activity in Belfast, attracting participants with extensive media coverage. This year through the formation of the first Caribbean Festival / One Love Festival, the Belfast Festivals Forum has provided three large electronic billboards placed in key locations across Belfast to promote One Love Festival/Caribbean Week 2014, which runs from August 9-16 with the official launch at Belfast City Hall.

Caribbean Week showcases the sights, food, sounds, colour, culture and unique vacation experiences of the Caribbean, with a focus on Vincentian and Jamaican culture. Caribbean tourism, artists, performers, chefs, and other strategic partners converge on Belfast for a week that highlights the diversity and vibrancy of the authentic Caribbean.

The festival is organized by the African Caribbean Support Organisation Northern Ireland (ACSONI) in partnership with the Association of Caribbean Nationals (ACAN) and support from the Consulate for St Vincent and the Grenadines to Northern Ireland.

Dr Christopher Stange, Hon. Consul for St Vincent and the Grenadines to Northern Ireland and chair of ACSONI, said: “Caribbean Week combines events with food, fashion, sport, entertainment, poetry, plays, music - including steel pan and networking opportunities. It creates awareness of the Caribbean’s diverse product offerings and showcases its desirability through business development opportunities, consumer engagement and authentic cultural experiences.

“Key stakeholders such as Jamaica’s National Building Society, Consulate for St Vincent and the Grenadines and Fairtrade Belfast will also attend to network and provide information to the public, investors and businesses. We thank our main funders – Office of the First Minister and deputy First Minister, Northern Ireland Arts Council, Belfast City Council and the Belfast Festivals Forum as without their continued support Caribbean Week/One Love Festival would not be possible.”
