BRIDGETOWN, Barbados -- The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) sub-regional office for Barbados and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) have announced that the upcoming finals, expo and award ceremony of the Caribbean Innovation Challenge will take place on April 25-26, 2013, in Barbados.

The Caribbean Innovation Challenge (CIC) is an international entrepreneur competition and business start-up accelerator for young people in the CARICOM member states. Awarding projects in three categories (social, economic and environmental), the CIC promotes innovation, social enterprise and the development of entrepreneurial initiatives in diverse and new sustainability sectors. The CIC is a component of the UNDP project Youth Innovation (Youth-IN): A Caribbean Network for Youth Development.

During the CIC events, 20 finalists, selected among 493 participating teams, will have the unique opportunity to showcase and present their projects to international and regional business experts during the final stage of judging. These Finalists will also be able to meet different potential partners and investors who may be interested in offering additional supporting to develop their businesses.

The event will feature a number of events open to the public, including a two-day international expo, as well as opening, closing and awards ceremonies. The expo will be held on both April 25 and 26. It will feature booths set up by the 20 finalists that will display their projects, prototypes, ideas and promotional materials. The opening ceremony will take place on Thursday, April 25 and will feature addresses by local government and stakeholders. The event will close with an awards ceremony on Friday, April 26, where winners will be awarded in the competing categories.
