Canadian cocaine honeymooners arrested in Antigua

ST JOHN’S, Antigua -- On Sunday, June 22, 2014, the Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Control Policy in Antigua and Barbuda seized six kilos of cocaine from a honeymooning Canadian couple who were scheduled to depart Antigua to Toronto, Canada.

Janice Copon and her husband, both of Toronto, Canada, were detained by officers who were conducting random screening of passengers when they encountered the pair.

Copon has since been charged with possession; possession with intent to transfer; being in concern with the supply of cocaine, attempting to export cocaine and drug trafficking. Copon’s husband is expected to be charged with similar offences at the conclusion of the investigative process.

The couple had been on island for just over one week.
