Published on March 15, 2013 Email To Friend    Print Version

PARAMARIBO, Suriname (ACN) -- Culture ministers with the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) are gathering in the Surinamese capital Paramaribo during their first forum aimed at empowering regional integration in the field of culture.

According to PL news agency, the two-day gathering will consider the contribution of culture to sustainable development.

The forum will also address the spread of good practice involving public policies that favour inter-cultural dialogue, a peace-oriented culture and non-violence, social well-being and the eradication of poverty.

The meeting is also expected to facilitate the exchange on issues related to legal issues, incentives and financial actions in the sector, as well as favour artistic projects in different countries of the area and the implementation of conventions adopted by the UNESCO in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The CELAC culture ministers will participate at the 19th forum of culture ministers and officials in charge of cultural policies in Latin America and the Caribbean.

This is the second CELAC ministerial meeting after the first summit of the 33-member bloc, held last January in Santiago de Chile, when Cuba assumed the pro-tempore chair of the community.
