Britain to host security trade mission in Trinidad
Published on March 2, 2013 Email To Friend    Print Version

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad -- The British High Commission, through UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) and the UKTI Defence and Security Organisation (DSO) will host a security trade mission in Trinidad from 4-6 March.

Members of the Ministry of National Security Divisions as well as local private sector security companies have been invited to attend the second UK Security Exhibition on Wednesday, 6th March 2013. The event will bring together 25 UK security providers and local agency representatives as part of a trade mission and exhibition for one-on-one discussions/meetings and exhibits. This builds on a successful security trade mission held in 2010 in partnership with the Ministry of National Security.

As part of the mission programme, the British High Commission will partner with the ministry to host a security stakeholder workshop entitled – Criminal Patronage Networks and Organised Crime in the 21st Century. The presenter will be Colonel Tim Collins, a world-recognised counter-insurgency expert, who has gained substantial experience from his time leading operations in Northern Ireland and other hostile environments worldwide including both Gulf Wars in Iraq.

Globally British companies have been recognised as world leaders in the security value chain, including conceptualisation, design, manufacture and export of security-related goods and services. National security in Trinidad and Tobago has been at the forefront of local, regional and even international headlines, with the government placing law and order high on its agenda.

The UK is working with Trinidad and Tobago, and regionally, on security issues; improved effectiveness in interdicting narcotics and small weapons; improved efforts to combat organised crime; and strengthening regional co-operation.
