Anguilla hotel on its way back
Published on February 6, 2013 Email To Friend    Print Version

THE VALLEY, Anguilla -- A major undertaking was completed last Friday with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the government of Anguilla and Chicago-based AJ Capital partners to restore and expand the Malliouhana Hotel and Spa to surpass its previous grandeur.

AJ Capital Partners is also the owner of a world class Ilse de France hotel in St Barths and a number of high end properties in the USA. The entire AJ Capital team was on hand to be party to this historic signing.

Malliouhana was represented at the ceremony by Nigel Roydon, son of the owner and developer, Leon Roydon. Also at the ceremony was CEO of Auberge Resorts, Mark Harmon, which will be the operator of the hotel that is slated to reopen for the upcoming season. He expressed his happiness with the administration and looked forward to working with the government and people of Anguilla.

Principals of AJ Capital were also on hand, along with the Anguillian contracting firm, Tandem, which is owned by Greg Togel, Chad Meldrum and Anguilla's own Frederick 'Daddy' Harrigan, along with the design team.

Chief Minister Hubert Hughes signed on behalf of the government and people of Anguilla.

Work is expected to begin almost immediately on the hotel's restoration.

Malliouhana Hotel and Spa first opened for business in November 1984 and the redevelopment will be done in phases expecting to cost in excess of US$80 million, with phase one expected to commence shortly. It will include the restoration of the existing 55 rooms, upgrades to the physical infrastructure, systems and restaurant. A further 45 to 90 rooms are expected in phase two.

Malliouhana Hotel and Spa closed in May 2011 pending a sale of the resort.
